Emotional intelligence is how good a person can control and describe their emotions, and how well they maintain relationships with other people. There are five components of emotional intelligence. These are self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation , empathy and social skills.
The difference between IQ and EQ is that IQ is a total score determined by standardized tests that measure how smart a person is for their age. A high IQ translates to someone being able to learn new information and apply it well. EQ is about the emotional and social areas of a person. It can be argued that EQ is more important than IQ when it comes to success as a professional.
Emotional Intelligence is important for professional progress because good relationships with co-workers and clients must be formed in order to have a successful career. Improving ones emotional intelligence allows one to be a better person because they understand themselves and others better.
